FAQs - Free Smalltalk Environments
More ...
Huemul is a new Smalltalk implementation.
Huemul methods are not interpreted, they are implemented in native machine code. With this approach, non-Smalltalk code is kept to the bare minimum, making it easy to port. It also brings outstanding performance to the Smalltalk world.
Huemul uses GTK to build its graphical user interface. This feature gives Huemul a familiar and appealing look and feel, not only in the developing environment, but also to the developed applications.
Huemul uses operating system native threads, allowing it to scale well from an uniprocessor system to a multicore and multiprocessor system.
Licence
Huemul Smalltalk has a new license. This license is version 2.0.0.
The change in the license is due to the advertising clause that was present in version 1.0.0 of the license. As quoted from Wikipedia: "This clause has been objected to on the grounds that as people changed the license to reflect their name or organization it led to escalating advertising requirements when programs were combined together in a software distribution".
The new version of the license, without advertising clause copes more with the open source standards and practices, which are completely shared with the authors of Huemul.
Huemul welcome enthusiasts of Smalltalk , developers and end users to join and participate in the adventure of this experience, that becomes even more open than ever before.
